Mrs. Terry Bright
I'm Terry Bright, and I have a bachelor's degree in English from James Madison University with a minor in Education. Being certified in English to teach grades 6 -12, I have taught for 25 years thus far. I have taught six years in Virginia Beach, Virginia, teaching 8th grade English; I have taught three years in Woodbridge, Virginia, teaching 9th, 10th, and 11th grade English; I have taught 12 years in Lynchburg, Virginia, teaching predominantly 7th grade English but also 6th and 8th grade English; and now I have taught for five years in Danville, Virginia, teaching 9th through 12th grade English. When I was in third grade in northern Virginia, I knew I wanted to be a teacher like my third grade teacher, Mrs. Gleichman. Later in high school, I determined that I wanted to teach English like my high school English teacher, Mr. Mattfield. I have always wanted to teach, and teaching is my passion!
When I graduated from JMU in 1980, I started teaching in Virginia Beach, and when I married in 1986, I moved to Arlington, Virginia, and taught in Prince William County at Woodbridge HS. When my first-born, Connor, arrived in 1989, I became a stay-at-home mom. I returned to teaching in Lynchburg, Virginia, when my youngest child, Jessie, was in 1st grade, which was in the spring of 2006. My husband, Matt, and I have been married for 37 years, and we have three wonderful children: Connor, Natalie (who is married to Joel Graham - see photo), and Jessica. We also have had several dogs in our family, and currently we have Becca, a full-bred black lab; she's 3 1/2 years old, so we have a teenager in the family again!
For four years now, I have been the PBIS coach for RISE Academy (Recover, Inspire, Succeed, and Encourage). I have been nominated for Teacher of the Year several times in my career and won the title in 2021. For the last couple of years, I have been nominated again, but I believe it's best when others have the opportunity to become Teacher of the Year!
