About
What we doAt Danville Public Schools we are building strong communities and creating ties to their school in fun, engaging and innovative ways.
DPS has incorporated Title I F.A.C.E. Specialists to directly engage family and community relationships to promote successful outcomes. F.A.C.E. Specialists will collaborate with the school's principal, student support team, and directly report to the Director for Federal Programs. Their role is to ensure that parental and family engagement efforts align with Title I guidelines and the school's strategic plan, while also enhancing community awareness of district improvement initiatives
Why is this work important?Research shows that students achievement increases when students are supported at home. When schools and families collaborate in partnership, the result is
- Better attendance
- Better behavior
- Better grades
- Adaptability
- Social skills
- Intentional and strong family engagement
Professional Development
DPS F.A.C.E. Specialists have received extensive training from the Dual- Capacity Building Framework by Dr. Karen Mapp and Scholastic. The framework contains four overarching ideas, and as they have piloted initiatives, they have focused on the “Essential Conditions” to support the process and organization of our program. Their experiences with Scholastic have allowed them to assess family engagement practices thorough our four metrics: welcoming, communication, information, and empowerment.
Policy and Programs
DPS district has removed barriers through initiatives such as tier systems for volunteerism and diverse language that reflects our community in policies and programs. We have placed intentional strategies in place in relation to communication to build trust between home and school such as newsletters from the school and district level.
Stakeholder Partnerships
It is essential that we have diverse and inclusive coordination of stakeholders to build a mutual respect and trust. Stakeholder feedback helps us to determine our next steps to ensure that all students are college and career ready. We all have a shared responsibility, as well as accountability, for student achievement.
Community Engagement
School Resource Hubs
The objective of each school's resource hub is to offer families a convenient space within the school, providing access to a variety of resources from both the school district and community. These hubs will host a range of materials in collaboration with our community partners, aimed at offering valuable takeaways for families to utilize in their homes.
