Hi!

My name is Michala Day Payne (Mrs. Payne)! I am so excited to be teaching English 11 and AP Seminar this 2023-24 school year. I am new to Danville Public Schools; however, I am not new to teaching! I received my Bachelors of Arts in English: Secondary Education from Longwood University and my Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction: Urban Education from Liberty University. I am currently attending Liberty University to receive my Educational Specialist degree in Curriculum and Instruction: Special Education. I have taught 8th, 9th, and 10th grades before my time here at GWHS. I love graphic designing, reading, and spending quality time with my husband and dog. 

My goal for this school year is to provide an engaging learning environment that causes students to WANT to be in class. I plan to provide students with a classroom culture built around respect, grace, and honesty. I hope to equip my students not only with the skills necessary to be promoted to the 12th grade but with skills that will evolve them socially and personally. With that being said...
