Students and Family Welcome to the Wonderful World of Chemistry! My name is Karara Muhoro, and I am excited about teaching Chemistry (CHEM) this year at George Washington High School. This is my eighteenth year teaching. My first ten years were completed at a few schools in Los Angeles [including Compton, and Sherman Oaks, (California). In Compton, I taught 7th-grade Life Science. In Los Angeles and Van Nuys, I taught 9TH Grade Biology, 10TH Grade Chemistry, 11TH Grade Physics, and High School Environmental Science. I have also taught 8TH Grade Physical Science at Sandusky Middle School in Lynchburg, Virginia (with the Lynchburg Public Schools). During the time I was teaching at the middle school and high school levels, I concurrently taught Beginning Chemistry and General Chemistry [As a professor of Chemistry] at the college level for 14 years. I served in the United States Army for about 13 years and mobilized during “Operation Nobel Eagle” ([2001) (I was part of the California Army National Guard.) during “Operation Nobel Eagle”. Apart from these demanding activities., I used to volunteer at the local library [The Baldwin Library in Los Angeles, California] where I guided students with their science and mathematics homework) (My volunteer services were designed to help middle and high school students connect to their community while keeping up with their educational assignments ]
Additional Activities: In the past, I worked as an actor [Day-Player] in motion pictures like “Phone Booth” from 20TH Century Fox, and “The Legend of the Tillamook Gold” [Filmed on Location on the Oregon Coast]. In addition to the motion picture, Phone Booth, I worked on one episode of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” [Episode 15, Starring: Sarah Michelle Gellar (Where I played a warrior (Shadow man Number 2)) https://www.imdb.com ]. I also did the voice of “Majini” in the video game, “Resident Evil Number 5”, released in 2008.
I enjoy the outdoors, which includes camping and hiking, and lawn manicuring, as well as gardening. As far as fun activities, I enjoy watching sports, especially basketball and Football and the World Series. I am a Los Angeles Laker fan, the New England Patriots, the Green Bay Packers, Anaheim Dodgers, Boston Red Sox, and Chicago Cubs. I love cuts and the cat family. I rescue homeless cats (whenever possible) and take care of them whether they have special needs or not. I have been lucky enough to have five adoptions out of twelve... I do research on the Chemistry of the interaction of viruses with enzymes [Organic Catalysts that speed up the rate of chemical reactions [Visit: the link (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZCJVQ8bgfkk )].
I look forward to working together in our discovery of the wonderful world and time-consuming discipline of chemistry. I believe that we can collaborate to solve any type of problem involving chemistry and the inherent mathematical implications. Always ask questions and utilize all available resources to keep building the pedagogical connections that make everyone curious to grow intellectually and confident in meeting every type of challenge education and beyond. The more resolution of challenges each student meets and solves the more it is less challenging reaching highest levels in one’s educational career as well as becoming a future contributing member of a democratic society. See syllabus for a chronological feature of our exploration into the wonderful discipline of chemistry to learn more of the structure and expectations of the class.
