School Board
-
The School Board of the City of Danville is a seven-member group of elected citizens. Members are elected to staggered four-year terms.
School Board meetings are generally held on the first Thursday of each month. All of the board meetings are evening meetings with the formal session beginning at 5:30 p.m. Monthly work sessions are normally scheduled 14 days after the regular meeting at 5:30 p.m. in the Danville Room. Special public meetings and public hearings on various subjects are scheduled as needed. For further information and accurate meeting dates, please contact the School Board office at (434) 799-6400.
On occasion, when special meetings are called or when other times and places for regular meetings become necessary, such changes are publicly announced on our website. All meetings are open to the public, except for closed meetings, which may be held for the purpose of discussing items as specified in the Virginia Freedom of Information Act.
School board meetings are streamed live and saved on the division's YouTube Channel.
The primary function of the School Board is to provide guidance for the education of students and the operation of schools.
Written policies of the Board, as well as administrative regulations and notices, are compiled in the School Board Policy Manual, which is available for citizen inspection in each school, the School Board Office, the public library, and the Danville School District website.
