COVID Info

While the Danville School Board and our superintendent recognize masking as an important strategy to stop the spread of COVID-19, Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin has signed Senate Bill 739 into law, which allows parents of any child enrolled in a public elementary or secondary school, or in any school-based early childhood care and education program, to elect for such child to not wear a mask while on school property.

This bill states that no parent making such a decision be required to provide a reason or any certification of their child’s health or education status and that no student shall suffer any adverse disciplinary or academic consequences as a result of this parental decision.

In compliance with this law, parents will be able to opt-out of masking beginning March 1, 2022 by completing and returning an opt-out form found on our website www.danvillepublicschools.org or at their child’s school. However, mask wearing is still welcomed and encouraged to keep our learning environments safe for all students and staff.

In addition, masks will still be required:

  • On any Danville Public Schools buses/transportation, in accordance with federal law.

  • For all employees.

  • For adult visitors at any of our facilities and at large gatherings or events.
