School Board Wrap Up - September 3
During their September 3 meeting, the Danville School Board made the following recognitions:
- September as Attendance Awareness Month. Director of Behavioral Health and Wellness Wayne Mayo gave an overview of attendance at DPS and recognized Bonner, Gibson, Park Avenue, Schoolfield, Galileo, Westwood, Forest Hills, and Activ8 for their work in supporting regular attendance of their students.
- September 15 - October 15 as Hispanic and Latino Heritage Month
- September as Suicide Awareness and Prevention Month
- September 13-19 as National Adult Education and Family Literacy Week
The board heard the following communication items:
- Superintendent Dr. Hairston gave an overview of bus routes and class sizes for the 26-27 school year.
- Board Member Keisha Averett shared an update from the Governance Committee meeting on August 27.
- Director of Assessment and State Reporting Olivia McCraw reviewed SOL results from the 25-26 school year.
The board took the following actions:
- Approved the Adult Education Advisory Council presented by Coordinator of Adult Education Dr. Antonio Hairston
- Approved personnel recommendations presented by Chief Human Resources Officer Angela Wimberly
- Approved the 2027-2028 Budget Process Calendar presented by Chief Financial Officer Andrea Gillus
