School Board Wrap Up - July 16

During their meeting on July 16, the Danville School Board recognized Danville Public Schools’ release from the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in June. Superintendent Hairston gave an overview of the information shared in the division’s exit interview with the Virginia Department of Education. 

The board heard the following communications:

  • Chief Financial Officer Andrea Gillus presented the most recent accounts payable warrants.
  • Board Member Takessa Walker gave an update from the Policy Committee, in which she held a first read for proposed policy updates. Redline copies can be found on BoardDocs, and Public Comment will be received via the survey here and at the August 6, 2026 School Board Meeting. 
  • Chief Human Resources Officer Angela Wimberly presented the updated DPS Employee Handbook and Code of Professionalism for a first read.

The board took the following actions:

  • Approved the 26-27 update to the Student CORES presented by Assistant Director of Behavioral Health and Wellness Til Jones.
  • Approved personnel recommendations presented by Chief Human Resources Officer Angela Wimberly.
  • Approved an adjustment to the 26-27 budget presented by Gillus
  • Approved the divisionwide crisis plan presented by Director of Safety and Security Jeff McLaughlin
