Graves to serve as School Board Chair

During their first meeting of 2025 on January 2, the Danville School Board selected Ty’Quan Graves as their chair and Keisha Averett as vice chair. They will serve in these capacities for the next year.

Graves has served on the school board since 2018, and this will be his third year serving as chair. Averett has served on the school board since 2021, and this will be her first year serving as vice chair.

Graves and Averett were chosen to serve in their capacities in a majority vote in the school board’s annual organizational meeting.

“I’m looking forward to working collaboratively with the board in this new year, continuing to work with our Superintendent, and being a champion for students,” Graves said.  “I’m looking forward to tackling the new year with an all-in mindset.”

“I’m looking forward to supporting the chair and continuing to work alongside the board and Superintendent to ensure all students have access to the resources they need to be successful,” Averett said.

In addition, Marketa Bass Jones and Andrea Gillus were elected to continue in their roles as School Board Clerk and Deputy Clerk, respectively. The board also approved dates for the 2025 school board meetings.

The Danville School Board is the governing body of Danville Public Schools. It has seven members who are elected to four-year staggered terms.

The meeting was the first for new board members Kacey Cunningham and Dr. Corey Williams, who were elected in November. Their terms will last until December 31, 2028, along with Tyrell Payne and Takessa Walker, who were re-elected to the board in November.

The remaining members of the board are Averett, Graves, and Dr. Keith Silverman. Their terms will expire on December 31, 2026.
