DPS announces 25-26 Teachers of the Year

Each year, Danville Public Schools (DPS) teachers at each school select a colleague to recognize for outstanding work in the classroom and in the school community. This year’s Teachers of the Year have been selected and will be honored at a ceremony in April.

The division’s Teachers of the Year for 2025-2026 are as follows:

  • Valerie Martin, G.L.H. Johnson Elementary

  • Elisabeth Brogden, Schoolfield Elementary
  • Sherry Walker, Woodberry Hills Elementary
  • Elizabeth deAristizabal, Activ8 STEM Academy
  • Denise Jones, O.T. Bonner Middle
  • Brittany Irvin, Westwood Middle
  • Tammie Saunders, Galileo Magnet High
  • Bradley Lopez, George Washington High

From these candidates, DPS will also submit a nomination for the 2026 Mary V. Bicouvaris Virginia Teacher of the Year award.

Each day, our teachers work to shape the city’s youth academically, socially, and emotionally. DPS acknowledges and appreciates our teachers in their dedication to their profession and our students as we continue to cultivate excellence in our city’s youth.
