Why a standards-based report card?
Standards-based report cards indicate how well a student is progressing toward mastery of grade-level standards.
What is standard-based reporting?
A standards-based reporting system is designed to inform parents about their child’s growth/progress toward achieving the specific end-of-the-year learning goals. They describe what students know and should be able to do at the end of the academic year.
Why have the report card and grading practices changed?
The new report card was revised to provide more concrete information to students, teachers, and parents about students’ growth and progress toward meeting grade-level standards.
For example, with the previous report card, students received one grade for each content area. Each subject has a list of skills on a standards-based report card and concepts students are responsible for learning. For each standard assessed, students will receive proficiency indicators (4, 3, 2, 1). This helps parents and teachers guide and support learning and help them be successful in a challenging academic program.
