Introduction: Welcome to Sociology! In this class, you will learn the study of the development, structure, and functioning of human society. Throughout the semester, we will be looking at what makes human society the way it is. If at any point in the semester you feel overwhelmed please see me immediately. Classroom Procedure/ Policy: Each student is expected to come to class ON TIME, quietly, with all necessary materials, and be seated and working on the bell work when the bell rings. Assignments will be collected at the beginning of class and are to be turned in on time. Late work will not be accepted, NO EXCUSES. If you are absent from class, it is your responsibility to see me or your peers about what you have missed. You will have the number of days you were absent to make up the work that you missed. PLEASE NOTE, this class is very heavily based in discussion, therefore if you are not here, it will be very hard for you to learn the material that was covered because I cannot simply recreate the discussion that was held. Your attendance will directly affect your grade, if your attendance is poor, your grade will be too. Use the restroom BEFORE you come to class. If it is an emergency, you must ask, and sign out with e-hallpass. Cell phones will beare prohibited from being visible during the class period. Cheating and plagiarism will not be tolerated. All papers will be submitted to a system that checks for any sort of plagiarism. If any is found, it will result in a zero for that assignment, and further disciplinary action if needed. Discipline Policy: If you follow the classroom procedures/policies, as well as adhering to the rules in the school handbook, you should be able to avoid any disciplinary consequences. I believe that you are young adults who deserve to be treated as such. However, if this is a PRIVILEGE that cannot be handled appropriately, it will be taken away. Life is all about choices, make the right ones and we won’t have any issues. Grading: Gold (Tests, projects, etc.) 40% Silver 35% Bronze 25% Test Retake Policy: If a student fails a test (59% or below) the student will be given the choice to take the test again. The student will need to schedule a retake with the teacher. Guidelines: Students must have not missed any more than 3 days of class during that particular unit in order to be eligible for a retake. Students must come to see Mrs. Vater the day the test is given back. The retake must take place within one week of the test being returned. If the student is habitually distracted during class (cell phone, video games, Chromebook, sleeping, etc.) it is up to the teacher’s discretion as to whether the student will be allotted a retake.
