Miss Megan Summers
About Me
Hello All! My name is Megan Summers and I am from rural Pennsylvania. As a child, I loved science. I spent countless hours playing in the dirt and growing my own plants. As a teenager, I took as many math and science classes as I could, spanning biology, chemistry and calculus. Now, as an adult, science is an essential piece of who I am.
In my spare time, I tend to my vegetable garden, grow succulents and hike through the mountains. As a new member to the Danville community, I hope to find some fun outdoor activities to participate in. If you have any suggestions, let me know!
Education
I graduated high school from James Buchanan High School in Mercersburg, PA. I was then awarded a National Science Foundation grant to participate in summer research at Bucknell University as a STEM Scholar. I began classes at Bucknell in 2015 and graduated in 2019. After researching sugar and obesity, I published two research articles on ingestive behavioral neuroscience and received a Bachelor of Science degree in neuroscience. My love for education led me to take classes in education and receive my Bachelor of Arts degree in education with a concentration in support services. My educational journey has been very exciting and I hope I can bring the same excitement to my classes.
Summers' Science Station
After college, I joined Teach for America and taught for two years in Selma, Alabama. Here I taught life science and physical science as well as honors science. Now that I have joined the Danville Public Schools team, I have created the Summers' Science Station to mimic a science laboratory for my students. We will engage in inquiry-based learning through the scientific method, relying heavily on our science notebook for tracking our work. It should be a fun year working through the life science curriculum! If you have any questions, please let me know!
